About LADS
LADS is a support, information and advocacy agency, founded in 1993 for people with ADHD and associated conditions. LADS supports children and adults with ADHD and their families. LADS also supports those who treat, teach and work with people who have ADHD.
LADS was officially opened in September 1993, following a year-long government sponsored research programme which clearly demonstrated that services for those diagnosed with ADHD were inadequate, poorly co-ordinated and unable to cope with the demands placed upon them. It also highlighted the very poor levels of support and information that were available for people with ADHD.
Hon Keith Wilson, who was Health Minister at the time, was our inaugural president, and Dr Christopher Green was our first patron. The tireless voluntary work of our founder, Wendy Mander, formed the backbone of LADS until 1999, supported by the Office coordinator, Professional Advisory Board, Management Committee and office volunteers. Since Wendy's death in 1999 LADS has had to re-group and wonderful volunteers have come forward to offer their services to our ADHD community. We have moved offices several times in the past, and are now happily settled into The Niche in Nedlands.
LADS is still supported by the Professional Advisory Board and governed by the Management Committee. We now have a part-time Administrative Assistant and a band of dedicated volunteers who run the office.
